Skyride: Still Water to White Water Along the River Lea

14th September 2014 @ 10:00 - 13:00

Sky Ride Local in Newham

This is a pleasant and relaxing waterside route from the View Tube Café (toilets and bike hire available) to the White Water Centre at Waltham Abbey. To begin the route you can enjoy spectacular views of the Olympic Park from the sightseeing platform from which you will see the 2012 Games Stadium, the ArcelorMittal Orbit Tower, the London Aquatics Centre and in the distance the Stratford Velopark with its iconic Velodrome. Leaving the Greenway you take the Lee Valley Navigation System via along the towpath to the 2012 Games White Water Rafting Centre at Waltham Abbey. Along the way there are options to explore the parks and marshes of North London and see some of the local wildlife. You’ll also pass the Copper Box arena, home to the handball, fencing, and goal ball events of the 2012 Games.

Please note that this route is suitable for any kind of bike but we would recommend using a hybrid or a mountain bike.

You don’t have to be the next Bradley Wiggins, but you’ll need to know your way around a bike and be fairly fit to take part in our Challenging rides. If you’re comfortable riding with other people and fancy a fresh challenge, these rides are perfect for you. They start at around twenty miles long, and are paced at between 11 and 12 miles an hour.
