Essex Ride to Mundon
24th August 2014
We will meet at Stratford London Station at 9:45am and walk to the platform (please have your tickets ready!)
Departing 10:09am (arrives Chelmsford 10:43) (£12.90 open return, on the day).
The first few miles out of Chelmsford are very amiable – cycling along the River and then along designated shared space. A few ‘thank you, fella’slater (due to narrow bridges and Essex slang), we follow National Cycle Route 1 through the woods, picking blackberry sustenance as we go. Also enjoying the view of beautiful red bricked homes (and some interesting looking barn conversions).  A short diversion from NCR1 and we arrive at Mundon where we will take some time to enjoy the surroundings – including St Mary’s Church (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Mary%27s_Church,_Mundon) and the Mundon Oaks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mundon ). There’s a pub a stone’s throw away if anyone is keen.
We’ll take a slightly different route back, cycling through the village of Maldon. The shops are likely to be mainly closed, but there are a number of restaurants where coffee appears available.
Synopsis: No longer than 35miles, mainly along NCR1 and nice country lanes. There are a few faster roads, although only a couple of short sections with no path to cycle on.   There are also a few gentle hills – but this of course gives the opportunity to free wheel the other side! J Speed: sociable and leave no one behind!
